Anderson - House 4

Anderson was born January 11, 1998 and has been in and out of halfway houses ever since. His mother had AIDS and drank often mixing alcohol with her AIDS treatment rendering it ineffective. She did not take care of her children and neglected and maltreated them frequently. Despite these conditions, Anderson loved his mother and was heartbroken when she died of complications with AIDS in 2004. After the death of his mother, he consoled himself by holding a little wooden box that his mother had painted for him. Their father visited them a few times and expressed some interest in taking the kids but is basically disinterested and is now out of the picture.

There are no other relatives who are available to take the kids in with the exception of a caring grandmother who maintained a limited interest in the lives of her grandchildren. She was the one who suggested the kids coming to Chain of Love so that they could stay together. Her husband is the superintendent of a building where they live and there is a limit in the number of people who can live in their apartment so bringing the children to live with her was not an option.

Despite his problems, Anderson seems to be adjusting well at Chain of Love he enjoys his family living with Cesar and Marli in House 9 and gets along well with the other guys his age on campus. The first day that he was here he helped out a lot planting grass in front of their house. Pray that Anderson would overcome his troublesome past and stay at Chain of Love long enough to allow Jesus to Change his life. I just heard from him that he loves it here—especially his mom and dad.

2008 Update: Anderson is ten years old and in grade four at school. He would like to be a basketball player when he grows up. His work at home is to dry the dishes and help clean the bathroom. He likes to play soccer in his spare time. He is very easy going, always smiling, even when being talked to seriously. He is active in Sunday School and the boys’ club at church. Sometimes he reads his Bible but usually listens and will understand these spiritual things as time goes on. He would like to live with his grandmother, but his grandmother doesn’t want him. Please join us in prayer that either Anderson or his grandmother would change their mind.

2009 Update: At school Anderson got good grades in Physical Education and Art, but finds Math difficult. Please pray that he will pass his school year. He also needs prayer to be able to forgive members of his family for his past. Pray that he will make good decisions regarding his future.
