Kateana - House 3
Kateana (Katy) was born March 13, 1995. She has two older brothers that were put into a home for boys and a younger sister, Miquela with whom she came to Chain of Love. Their father died some time ago and the mother remarried shortly afterwards. From this second union was born another younger sister.
Their mothered died last year at 36 years of age from AIDS. The step father wanted none of the step children except for the youngest which was his own. A neighbor took in the 4 older ones but was not able to take care of them. She wanted us to take them in so we oriented her to go through social services. First the two boys were placed in a boy’s home and then about a year later the girls came to us.
Kateana is in grade 4. She was not in school this year (2007) but will enter school soon and continue with her education. She mentioned to Ken that many things can be taken away from a child but there is one thing that no one can take away and that is the education you receive. There of course is a second subject and that is Jesus Christ – which no one can take away from you. This she will discover soon.
Kateana likes to be called Katy. She is active and likes sports. Soon after she arrived she was involved in a game of street soccer. She does not care to have her picture taken. She has an awful scar that runs the width of her forehead. She told us that she got this from falling off of a swing.
Kateana has been placed along with her sister in our third home, where the house parents are José and Alzira. The other children had been waiting anxiously for their arrival.
2008 Update: Kateana, or Katy as she likes to be called, is thirteen and in grade five. She is happy and obedient and washes dishes at home. She likes to play volleyball in her spare time. Katy is growing well in her spiritual life. She attends the girls’ club and Sunday School. She has devotions every day, is asking many questions and is anxious to learn more about God. She is both saved and baptized. Please pray for her as she seeks God’s will for her life.
2009 Update: Kateana has made some good friends at school and has achieved well in English. Her challenge is in dealing with some brothers in her house who are very demanding and emotionally unstable at times. Kateana would like to go to college when she graduates but is not sure which courses to take. Please pray for her as she plans for her future.
