Luciano - House 5
Luciano came to us along with his younger sister. Luciano comes from a situation where his family was decimated by aids. The father has died from it and his mother is presently on her death bed as well.
Before being overcome by the adverse effects of this sickness, the mother had already abandoned these children. She has had a long history of abandoning her children. The older children have aids. One of the siblings, slightly older than Luciano is now in the hospital and is not expected to live much longer.
What has made the difference for Luciano and his sister, is that the mother followed a government program that treated the fetus while still in the womb so that they were born without aids. In spite of this, Luciano was born with club feet. He was in treatment and had surgery. His right foot was much more deformed than the left, but even so he managed to get around. The surgery was successful and he can run and play as well as anyone now.
He is a happy little fellow and enjoys playing outdoors as much as any of the other children. Luciano and his younger sister have been placed with our fifth couple, Tadeu and Deny. The kids seem to be at home with this family.
Luciano is now 10 years old and in the 5th grade. He is also taking an art course offered here on campus. He is always playing with the other kid outside. He is one of the quieter boy but is friendly. Pray for his continued adaptation and that he will be open to God’s plan for his life.
Update: Luciano loves to skate board. He was one of the first to hurt himself. He managed to dislocate his wrist.
January 2007 Update: Luciano is 12 years old and in 7th grade. He has made a decision for Christ and is open to baptism but not yet. At the homes he takes soccer classes as well as computer in which he is very good. At church he participates in boys’ brigade as well as the adolescents’ program and sang in the Christmas cantata. He does very well in school and is the reference for all the other COL kids in his grade.
Main Prayer Request: For his health and to overcome the grief he feels when his biological grandmother doesn’t come to visit him.
2008 Update: Luciano is thirteen years old and in grade eight. He is studious and would like to study well enough to attend university. At home he works to keep his bedroom clean, makes his bed and also dries the dishes. In his spare time he loves to play soccer. He has won trophies for his skill. He is a good, loving boy.
At church he attends Sunday School and the adolescents’ group. He has accepted the Lord and been baptized, but is easily influenced by others. He is tending to be influenced by others away from church activities.
Please pray that Luciano’s good character will predominate and that he will have the strength to withstand negative influences.
2009 Update: Luciano is now working and is participating well at his new school. Please pray that he will pass his grade this year. He finds the work quite difficult as the standards are much higher. Also pray that he will make friends at school, and that he would be able to overcome his self consciousness about the skin cysts on his face.
