Flávio - Boys Youth Home
Flavio comes from a situation of brutal physical abuse. His father would beat him and make him stand there and take it. His father cut up his face with knives and he wasn’t allowed to defend himself.
The first day he was here, he tried to run away. He was so afraid that people here were going to try and beat him up. His new house mom Marli talked to him and asked him if he wanted to live on the streets. She told him that’s where he would end up if he decided to run away from us. He decided to stick it out for a little while. We had a group here at that time and they took him under their wing as the other children joined in the games and crafts during the VBS. He has found that the people here really are caring and genuine.
He has adjusted fairly well now but is still a little physical when he wants his own way. He lives off campus in one of our rented houses with Marli and Cezar.
Flavio is now 13 years old and is begining to show an interest in girls. He likes to tease and joke around. He has a big, bright smile. He enjoys youth group and loves soccer. He is learning to work with leather here at Chain of Love. He likes to walk out though when he hears that a soccer game is under way.
January 2007 Update: Flávio is 15 and in 5th grade. Flávio has made his decision for Christ and has been baptized. He loves church and participates in Sunday School and adolescents. He is very close to his housemother. He is loving and very helpful. He has begun a technical course in wood-working. At COL he works in the shoe/belt making shop.
Main Prayer Request: That Flávio would learn Math. This year he did well in all other subjects, but not Math. In Brazil if you fail one subject you repeat the whole year. This has been a big frustration for Flávio.
2008 Update: Flavio is sixteen years old and in grade six at school. He would like to go to college some day. He is always willing to help his house parents at home; his main chore is to sweep the patio and sidewalk. He likes to play soccer, ride his bike and play video games. He is very obedient and likes to talk to his house mother and confide in her. He is active in the Sunday School and adolescents’ group at church. He is progressing well in his spiritual life, has accepted Christ and been baptized.
Please pray that Flavio will find a job that he enjoys.
2009 Update: Flavio enjoyed success in History and Science this year, achieving good grades, but he is finding Math to be a challenge. Please pray for him as looks for employment.
