Erivelton - House 2

Erivelton Costa Victor and his brother and sister came to us on Sept. 12/05. Erivelton was born July 04, 1998. He comes from a grouping of 6 siblings and is the youngest. The mother died last September from intestinal cancer. She had been separated from her live in companion (the children’s dad) for 3 years already and was taking care of the children by herself and with the help of her sisters, as well as another 4 children from a previous relationship.

In the past the father had been violent and unemployed most of the time. He wanted to have enough of his own children that they would form a soccer team. His alcoholism made matters worse. When the mother died he wanted to assume the children since they were entitled to benefits related to the mother’s death. Because he was irresponsible the children were soon farmed out to his relatives and many did not want to stay with him. There was a long process of ping pong where the children went from one relative to another, but because they were too poor to take them for long, soon they were back in the hands of the social workers. Some did manage to be placed with responsible adults, but the two younger boys wanted to stay with their dad, which included Erivelton. The dad himself handed the boys over to social services when he realized that he could not support them.

Erivelton and his brother and sister have been placed in the second home with Raimundo and Eli. They already have 3 cousins in this home, who did not really want their cousins coming to Chain of Love. We worked with them and soon they extended a hand of mercy to their cousins that they really did not know.

Erivelton is in kindergarten and enjoyed receiving a fistful of toys upon arrival. He seems shy but time will show how he is like. Please pray for his development and growth.

January 2007 Update: Erivelton is 8 and in 2nd grade. Eriveltom has not made a public commitment to Christ but is very open and receptive. He is very sweet, obedient and respectful. He is thankful for the COL and for his house parents.

Main Prayer Request: That he would come to accept Christ as Saviour early in life.

2008 Update: Erivelton is nine years old and attends grade three in the afternoons. His responsibilities at home are to keep his bedroom clean and tidy and to feed the dog. He is an active lad who loves to ride his bicycle, play soccer and swim. Although he has no difficulty in making friends he can be stubborn and has a problem with anger. Erivelton seems to have some hurt deep inside that is not resolved that prevents him from showing love. In spite of this he is making good progress in his spiritual life. He attends Sunday School and has accepted Jesus as his Saviour. He is not yet baptized. Please pray that God would touch Erivelton’s heart to heal his hurt and enable him to receive and demonstrate love.

2009 Update: Erivelton is well-behaved at school but at times displays bad temper. He has recently moved to a new school that has higher standards. Please pray for him to succeed at school and also for his biological family.
