Guilherme - House 9
Daniel Guilherme da Silva was born on October 28, 1997. We have another Daniel so we refer to him as Guilherme or as Gui so there is no confusion. He is a very small boy for his age. His story is a very sad story of abandonment.
The mother showed up at the half way house with Guilherme when he was 5 months old. He was very under nourished and was hardly taken care of. She left him there because she couldn’t afford to take of him. The father worked and tried to see him every once in a while but lives in a city about an hour away and couldn’t come because of the distance. The mother visited him a few times but after that, she was never heard from again.
The women in the half way house basically put Guilherme in front of the television day after day and never really played with him. He was very shy and temperamental and hardly ever spoke. At this point Guilherme was in the half way house for almost all of his life. The women there weren’t sure how he would relate to a real family.
Guilherme has been placed with Renato and Cida and their 9 Chain of Love children. He has adjusted tremendously. One of the older boys has taken him under his wing and is teaching him all the different ways you can have fun here. He is still a little shy with strangers but if somebody touches his stuff, he lets them know that isn’t appropriate.
Guilhereme is now in the first grade and is doing very well. He still is small for his age, but strong. He has the great talent of being able to stand on his head for long periods of time!! He loves to play outside with his friends, and is quite loud. He likes to do head stands and procedes this way up and down our internal road.
January 2007 Update: Daniel Guilherme goes by the name Guilherme or Gui. He is 9 and in 3rd grade. Gui has not yet responded to the things of the Lord. In church he sang in the Christmas cantata and takes part in Sunday School. (he usually falls asleep in the service). Gui loves to play ball, with his toy cars, bike and especially climb trees. He can be timid, but if picked on, can quickly fight. He has many friends and is sweet. He is a little too active to buckle down to studying, but is very smart. He will be having a Neurologist give an evaluation whether he is hyperactive or just normal!! He is a bit immature for his age. He is an obedient boy.
Main Prayer Request: that Gui would be a bit calmer and interested in his studies. That he would open up to the Spirit’s voice and come into a relationship with Christ, and that he would own up to his errors and not always put the blame on someone else.
2008 Update: Daniel Guilherme is ten years old and in grade three. Lately his schoolwork has improved greatly. His chore at home is to sweep the outside walks. In his spare time he likes to play soccer and computer games. He smiles a lot, is very playful and exhibits a lot of creativity. He attends the boys’ club at church and Sunday School. He is now participating more in these activities and enjoys singing. He was thrilled to receive a Bible of his own by one of his sponsors and now shows more interest in spiritual things. He has accepted the Lord. Please pray that he will continue to improve in his schoolwork and take an interest in the things of God.
2009 Update: Guillerme has been much more patient recently and has not been losing his temper. He is finding it hard to adapt to his new school with much higher standards. He asks you to pray for his biological mother and would love it if you were able to come and visit him.
