Cristian - House 7
Cristian Rodrigues Cardoso was born March 15th, 1998 in Porto Alegre. When he was 8 months old he was found by the social services half dead (dehydrated, no clothes and covered in flies)! Cristian went to the hospital several times for neglegence by his birth mother and grandmother, After that he went up for adption. Since May 31, 1999 Cristian has lived in shelters in Alvorado and has faced informal and illegal adpotions. Four couples adpoted the boy, but returned him due to his disobediance- even causing one couple to separate. On March 31, 2000, his mother lost parental rights over him because she was a drug dealer and user and lived with Cristian in a trash dump.
May 4, 2000 Cristian was handed over to his maternal grandfather, but his grandfather’s partner abused the boy both physically and mentally. On January 19, 2001 Cristian returned to the halfway house. Due to his numerous rejections, Cristian became aggressive in nature (autodestructive). He had to take medication and be subjected to psychiatrical and psychological check-ups. He came to the Chain of Love homes on Febuary 24th, 2005 to house 7 under the care of Romilda and Sérgio.
Here at the home we have seen an improvement in his behavior but is still receiving psychological help. He seems to be a lot happier. He is in the 1st grade. He loves to play with his new brothers and sisters. Since coming to us quite malnourished, Cristian is filling out nicely. He loves his new mom and dad and takes pride of the house that he lives in.
January 2007 Update: Cristian is 9 and in 2nd grade. Cristian came with terrible aggressive behaviour and glutony (he was very malnourished). He has improved 80% according to house mom, Romilda. He is more self-controlled and less aggressive and controls his eating better as well. He is very smart, but has difficulty retaining information. He took gymnastics at school this year and is very agile. He enjoys Sunday School, and sang in the Christmas cantata. He has a very thankful heart!
Main Prayer Request: That he would continue progressing and be able to learn (retain) information. That he would become less and less aggressive and let Jesus bring peace into his heart.
2008 Update: Cristian is ten years old and in grade four at school. His work at home is to dry the breakfast dishes. When he has spare time he loves to play games, and play with cars and blocks. When it is raining he loves to be outside. He is a loving boy, full of mischief and curiosity. When people are busy he likes to find out what they are doing. Cristian is growing spiritually, attending the boys’ club and Sunday School at church. He has asked Jesus into his heart but is not yet baptized. Please pray that the Lord will help him to exchange his nervousness for peace and calm.
2009 Update: Cristian earned a good mark in art in school this year and is now trying harder to succeed. He finds it difficult to accept limits and be organized at school. This affects his progress, his relationships and his behaviour. He prays that he would do well in school and that his sponsors would come and visit him.
