Luciana - House 2
Luciana was born January 1, 2003. Currently she is 6 years old. Luciana and her brother, Valdomiro and Luiza come to us from the capital city of Porto Alegre.
For Luciana and her siblings there´s is a case of abandonment. There is no father figure present (drug trafficker as well as an Aids carrier) and the mother left them to defend for themselves on the street. She is also sick with Aids as well as tuberculosis and has hospitalized in the past for this.
Luciana and her siblings, were for some time were begging on street corners. At one point they were taken in by neighbours of their mother, but this did not last long. When the social services system finally intervened the children were all extremely dirty and hungry, and were diagnosed with extremely poor health, malnourishment, chronic diarrhea, and possibly tuberculosis as well. After this intervention, Luciana spent a month in the hospital due to respiratory complications.
The mother has lost parental rights, as she is not only negligent, but also did not provide adequate housing. She also is a chronic substance and alcohol user.
Luciana has asked to be placed in a substitute family. She is very petite for her age and eats everything with her hands. She is in grade 1. Both she and her brother and sister have been placed in our second home under the care of Fabiana and Anderson.
