Miguel - House 3
Miguel came to us from the half way house in our city at 10 years of age. He has been there since April of 2005. He was born to a girl who gave birth to him when she was only 10 years old. He is a consequence of rape. The mother herself was brought up on the streets living in abandoned warehouses along with her mother. It really is a small world as we know who the grandmother is and knew the mother herself as a small girl. They are street people and live by recycling garbage. It is time to step in and break this cycle!
Miguel calls his mother ¨blacky¨ and treats her like a sister and calls the grandmother ¨mother¨. They would visit him sporadically at the half way house. The last time the mother visited him was about a year ago. The grandmother has also stopped visiting him as she wanders from one abandoned factory to another. The last visit was more than half a year ago.
The courts have ruled that he needs a stable home with a mother and father figure. The mother and grandmother in the past had put their own interests in first place, and Miguel was often left exposed and at risk. Their companions often were drunks and also tended towards violent behavior. Miguel suffered with this as well as emotionally as he was abandoned in the government shelter by his own dysfunctional family. He has other brothers and sisters in other shelters. In all he has suffered from extreme poverty, violence, neglect, abandonment.
Because of this Miguel is behind in school. His birthday is Sept. 29, 1997 and he is still in grade one. This of course is understandable when looking at his circumstances. He is being placed in our third home with José and Alzira as house parents.
2009 Update: Miguel is loving it at COL and especially likes going to church. He is really excited to have sponsors since this is something entirely new for him.
2009 Update: Miguel is well behaved and increasing in self confidence. He finds school work a challenge and he is quite emotional at times. Please pray that his family would soon come and visit him.
