Andressa - House 5

Andressa came along with her older brother. We need to call her by the diminutive form of her name seeing that we have an older Andressa in the same home, so she is referred to Andressinha. Andressinha comes from a situation where her family was decimated by aids. The father has died from it and her mother is presently on her death bed as well.

Before being overcome by the adverse effects of this sickness, the mother had already abandoned these children. She has had a long history of abandoning her children. The older children have aids. One of the siblings, slightly older than Andressinha is now in the hospital and is not expected to live much longer.

What has made the difference for Andressinha and her brother, is that the mother followed a government program that treated the fetus while still in the womb so that they were born without aids. Andressinha and her brother have been placed with our fifth couple, Deny and Tadeu. The kids seem to be at home with this family. Pray that the past will not leave a scar in her life and that Christ will be exemplified through her new family.

Andressinha is a tomboy. She likes to play rough and get dirty. She is self-confident and is not afarid to stand up for herself. She is 8 years old and in 2nd grade. She is also taking a praise and worship course at our technical center.

Update: Andressinha had her mother’s day poem and drawing published in the local news paper. She also has learned to play by ear on the key boards and now wants to play the bongo!

January 2007 Update: Andressinha is 9 years old and in 4th grade. She has given her heart to the Lord but is not baptized yet. Andressinha takes keyboard and music lessons. She is sensitive to God and is a good witness. She sang in the Christmas cantata and is active in the Pioneer Girls. She is responsible, obedient and a good helper at home.

Main Prayer Request: For better temper control and that she will get over the loss of her biological parents.

2008 Update: Andressinha is eleven years old and in grade five at school. At home she takes care of her belongings, washes the kitchen floor, helps with the laundry and also helps to make the children’s lunches. She loves music and is learning to play the keyboard. Andressinha is a very organized person. She keeps her schoolbooks in good order. She can be explosive in her temperament, but if you know how to handle her she can be a very good friend.
She is active at Sunday School and Girls’ Club, growing well in her faith and has accepted Christ as her Saviour. She often asks for certain Bible verses to share with friends.
She hopes to take university training in the future.
Andressinha would like to be able to sing. However she has a hoarse voice and asks that we pray that she might be able to sing. Also pray that she will do well in her studies.

2009 Update: Andressa gets good marks at school, participates well and is willing to help around the house whenever she is needed. She can be stubborn at times. She asks for prayer for her biological mother who is preparing for surgery.
